How PdfWatch WorksHow to track who opens my PDF

If you are wondering how to track who opens my PDF or how to share PDF securely, you are in the right place. From upload to insight in under 60 seconds. No IT setup. No integrations. Just upload, share, and watch. Understanding a PDF link tracker how it works has never been simpler.

01

Upload Your PDF

Your PDF is encrypted locally in your browser using AES-256-GCM before it ever leaves your device. You select the file, your browser encrypts it, and only the encrypted blob is sent to our servers. PdfWatch receives random-looking binary data — we are architecturally incapable of reading your document.

02

Share Your Secure Link

You receive a unique secure link. The decryption key lives only in the URL hash fragment — the part after the # symbol — which browsers never transmit to servers. When you share this link, only the person who has it can decrypt and view the document. You can share it via email, Slack, WhatsApp, or any channel.

03

Watch the Analytics

Every time someone opens your link, you see it in real time on your dashboard. Track total views, time spent on each page, a heatmap showing which sections got the most attention, and the viewer's country. Revoke access at any time with one click.

What Zero-Knowledge Actually Means

Most document sharing platforms store your files on their servers and can technically read them. Cloud storage providers, document tracking tools, and email services all have access to your content. PdfWatch is built differently. We use a zero-knowledge architecture: your document is encrypted in your browser before upload, and the encryption key is embedded in the URL hash fragment. Hash fragments are never sent to web servers — it is how browsers work by design. This means even if our servers, database, and storage were completely compromised, an attacker would find only encrypted binary data, unreadable without the key that never left your link. We do not claim we choose not to read your files. We are technically unable to. That is the difference between a promise and a guarantee.
